The contract makes PDG the first operator in Indonesia to offer biomass powered capacity to its customers

Indonesia | August 8, 2023Princeton Digital Group (PDG), Asia’s leading data center provider, today announced that it has entered into a renewable energy contract with PT Cikarang Listrindo Tbk (CL) to procure power generated from biomass sources for its 30 MW data center campus in Cibitung. The multi-year contract will enable PDG to take a meaningful step towards digital decarbonization by powering initially up to 20% of its data center campus in Cibitung with renewable energy.

The agreement was signed between Stephanus Tumbelaka, Managing Director, PDG Indonesia and Matius Sugiaman, Commercial Director PT Cikarang Listrindo

PDG’s Greater Jakarta campus will start consuming biomass powered energy from CL’s mixed fuel plant in August 2023. Earlier this year, PDG also became the first data center operator to procure biomass I-RECs from CL.

“Renewable energy plays a pivotal role in decarbonization. We are taking meaningful steps to ensure that we are progressing not only our sustainability commitment, but also working towards Indonesia’s clean energy transition goals as we build the data centers of the future,” said Stephanus Tumbelaka, Managing Director, PDG Indonesia. “Our agreement with CL enables us to offer sustainable data center services to our customers by substituting conventional power with renewable energy. We are continually exploring opportunities with power providers whose goals are in alignment with ours so that we can build and operate sustainable digital infrastructure together.”

PDG has been a strong supporter of renewable energy development in Indonesia. In 2020, PDG was the first corporate buyer of state-owned electricity firm PLN’s RECs and since has regularly procured these certificates as part of its sustainability strategy. Most recently, PDG procured geothermal energy in the form of RECs from PLN, for three of its data centers in Jakarta, Bandung and Pekanbaru.

“We are excited to partner with one of Asia’s leading data center providers, PDG, and support them in achieving their renewable energy goals. This partnership is ever growing strong and establishing a good impact not only for both parties, but also for the environment and the public in general,” said Matius Sugiaman, Commercial Director of PT Cikarang Listrindo Tbk.

With 21 data centers in six key markets, sustainability is a core business focus for PDG. The company’s environment strategy is driven by procurement of renewable energy, energy and resource efficiency, green design and construction, and technology and innovation. PDG is working with leading renewable energy companies in the region to transition its portfolio of data centers from conventional power to low or zero carbon energy options. PDG’s 22 MW JC2 campus in Jakarta is in final stages of construction and is planned for Ready for Service in Q3 2023.
